Cute medium sized car?

Q: I'm 15, turning 16 in december. My sister is 17 and drives a ford escape. I really love the mini cooper's everything, but my parents thinks its too small, so it's not safe. I was wondering if anyone knows any just as cute, little bit bigger car. We are buying it used, so the new price should be less than $25,000. Thanks!

A: That budget doesn't leave much but a Jetta or Passatt would fit the price range. But with Volkswagen reliability is an issue. I would say get a Toyota Corolla or Camry. A Genesis or Genesis Coupe would also work.

How Many Miles is Acceptable on my First Car?

Q: I'm looking to buy my first car and was just curious how many miles would you say is acceptable to buy without having to pay for major repairs in the first 2-3 years?

A: Until lately, I would have agreed that 100,000 miles is pretty safe for many used cars, especially Honda, Toyota, Nissan and others. However...I have test-driven at least 10 automobiles in the last few days, all in the $5,000 to $6,000 price range, and every single one has had mechanical issues. That includes 5 Honda Accords, all of which had transmission problems, as well as 2 Camrys with similar problems. All of those vehicles had around 100,000 miles on them. My advice would be to look for ANY automobile with under 100,000 miles that starts, runs, and drives perfect. If you can drive a manual transmission, I think that's an advantage, because automatic transmissions are ALWAYS prone to problems, no matter what type of vehicle it is. You might not be able to find any good automatic cars, but then find a good-running 5 speed car that fits your budget.

What type of car is this?

Much appreciated :).
